Round #2 in the Jungle

While this may have been the third "stint" in the valley for most, it was my second. After our trip to Bocas del Toro, I was definitely ready to get back into the valley. It's funny how accustomed you get to sleeping in a tent, going to the bathroom with the bugs, and sweating 24 hours a day. We still didn't have wood to build our deck, so work in the jungle was limited to small projects as well as getting ready for the rest of Kalu Yala to come out for the 4th of July.

The only person who really had something going on was Alex. He's building his own hut essentially by creating a thatched dome that will sit on posts where he will soon live/sleep under.  He created the dome out of recycled pvc pipe. I helped him weave twigs into the pipe to create a structure that would hold the soon-to-be thatch. After completion, the dome was transported by trailer to the final location.

Alex is standing in his soon-to-be foyer.

Johnny - our chef - has been working on a hangout down by the river. He calls it the "stoner pad". It's pretty cool. We've made benches out of rocks and he hung a tarp over the area to keep the rain out. A few boys made a table to play cards on, and a pathway was created through the trees for a secret entrance. Now I know you're thinking - "This is what they're builidng? A stoner pad?" I will defend myself in saying that we have no materials to build what we are supposed to be building. So alas, we get more hangout spots.
Entry into the pad. A rock path is on the right.

The Pacora River - aka our shower.
Let's hope next time we get to build what we supposed to be building!
